Geneva’s Successful Season Comes to An End

Geneva traveled to Mobile on Friday night to take on the Mobile Christian Leopards for the first round of the playoffs.

To start off the game Geneva won the coin toss and would elect to kick, which would allow Mobile Christian to receive. The first quarter would be all Leopards. After receiving the kickoff, Mobile would only take one minute off the clock before they would throw a screen to the left side and would take it into the end-zone for a touchdown. Extra point would be good. Geneva would try to answer back after receiving the following kick and try to get some momentum built on offense but Mobile Christian would stop the Panthers and would get the ball back. The Leopards would line up on offense and with 5:38 left in the first quarter Mobile Christian would run it in for a 3 yard touchdown. Mobile Christian would score one more time in the first quarter making it 21-0 going into the second quarter.

Most of the second quarter would be quite until with 3:02 left in the half the Leopards would take the hand-off and run it in to increase their lead to 28-0 over Geneva. Below 2 minutes Geneva would finally be able to get on board after Kahari McReynolds would take it 66 yards for a touchdown. 2 point conversion would be no good. Geneva would kick off after the touchdown and Mobile Christian would run it back for a kick return giving them a 35-6 lead over Geneva going into the half.

The Panthers would receive the ball to start the second half but could not get anything going. Mobile Christian would get the ball back and would get the hand-off to get into the end-zone to increase their lead to 42-6. Geneva would start to get some momentum built up and Dylan Creech would take the hand-off, shed off a couple of Leopards, and would get into the end-zone for a touchdown. Damion Kemmerlin would call his own number and would be able to get the 2 point conversion. Mobile Christian would go into the fourth quarter with a 42-14 lead over Geneva.

The Panthers momentum would carry into the fourth quarter. After stopping the Leopards on downs, Geneva would drive down field to get on the Leopards’ side of the field. Damion Kemmerlin would then call his own number and would run it in for a touchdown with 10:44 left in the game. 2 point conversion would be no good. Mobile Christian would later answer back with a touchdown to make it 49-20 with 7:22 left on the clock. Geneva would not quit, with 4:40 left in the game, Dylan Creech would take the hand-off and run it in for another touchdown. 2 point would be good. The Panthers went for an onside kick and would recover! Geneva kept fighting. Damion Kemmerlin would drop back to pass with 2:02 left on the clock and would throw it up in the end-zone and Kahari McReynolds would leap to catch it and would make sure to keep one foot in to make it another touchdown for Geneva. 2 point conversion would be good. Once again, Geneva would try the onside kick but this time the Leopards would recover and run the time out. Mobile Christian defeated Geneva 49-36 to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Geneva’s season would come to an end after having an 8-2 regular season record and making it to the first round of the playoffs.
