The Geneva Panthers played host to County Rival Samson Friday night in Hugh Owen Memorial Stadium. Geneva got off to a slow start, and played a defensive game with the Tigers in this one. The Panthers were led by Junior Linebacker Dylan Creech on defense who finished with 13 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. Creech also added 59 yards on the ground and 30 yards receiving and a receiving touchdown. Geneva and Samson remained tied until the 3rd quarter before Kahari McReynolds scored from 4 yards out. Mason Coskrey then threw the 2-pt conversion to McReynolds to put Geneva on top 8-0. The score remained that way until Coskrey connected with Creech for a 20 yard score. Coskrey then converted the 2-pt conversion on the ground to extend the lead to 16-0. Kahari McReynolds finished with 72 rushing yards and 31 receiving yards on offense and added 5 tackles on defense. Coskrey ended with 90 yards rushing and 61 yards through the air with 6 tackles. Geneva was able to pull out a tough, hard fought game against County Rival Samson tonight, despite the Tigers strong effort. Next game will be next Friday against the Straughn Tigers at home as the Panthers look to go 2-2 in area play.
On Friday night, Geneva traveled to Opp to face off against the Bobcats in an Area 3 3A matchup. Geneva came into the game at 1-2 with a win against Geneva County and losses to area teams Providence and Pike County. Opp came into this game winless with losses to Elba, Straughn, and Houston Academy. The Panthers started off strong driving straight down the field as Kahari McReynolds capped the drive off with a 12 yard touchdown score. Following the score Dylan Creech recovered the onside kick at the 48 yard line. The next play, Senior Quarterback, Mason Coskrey, launched a pass to wide open Hunter Webster for a 48 yard score. Kahari McReynolds had 5 touchdowns in the first half, 3 receiving, 1 rushing, and 1 pick 6. McReynolds finished the game with 61 rushing yards and 1 TD, 116 receiving yards and 3 TDs, an Int for 44 yards and a TD, a fumble recovery for 36 yards, and 5 tackles. Mason Coskrey ended with 72 yards rushing, 161 passing yards and 3 TD followed by 5 tackles on defense. Geneva beat Opp 49 – 33 after Opps second half surge.
